Students interested in graduating with honors in physics must apply as follows must either apply to the IT or CLA honors programs depending on what type of degree is sought.
To apply, you should meet with the Director of Upper Division Honors in Physics (DUDHP), fill out a Graduation with Honors Preliminary form and submit it to the IT Honors Office. After you file this form, you are recognized as an IT upper division honors student, and are eligible to take honors classes such as Honors Seminar. Normally, you should file your application shortly after admission to upper division in physics.
Note that during the meeting with DUDHP, you will be asked to make a plan of what Honors Experiences you intend to pursue, what research you will work on and who your faculty adviser will be. If you already have a clear plan, go ahead and fill them out. If you don't have answers to some of these questions, you can file the form without them. In that case, you will need to file another Graduation with Honors – Preliminary form later with full information.
You should go to the CLA Honors Office at 115 Johnston Hall to fill out an application, or download the Application form and fill it out. The application must be turned in to the CLA Honors Office for preliminary approval. For more details, look at How to apply for Junior/Senior CLA Honors Program.
The Final Graduation with Honors form should be turned in to the IT honors office by the 7th week of the term of graduation. This occurs typically early March for spring graduation and mid-October for fall graduation. Check with the IT honors office for exact deadline.
The Thesis Approval form and the Thesis must be turned in to the IT honors office by the end of the last week of classes of the term of graduation. This occurs typically early May for spring graduation and mid-December for fall graduation. Check with the IT honors office for exact deadline.
